The simple, but effective tip of prioritising water into your daily routine...

Our bodies have many cries for water. Many we ignore and do not prioritise. We would not forget to give our children, families, friends a drink of water, but when it comes to us, often we do not see the importance.

Dehydration happens when your body loses more fluids than you take in. Many people suffer with unwanted side effects of not drinking enough water; fatigue, headaches, dizzy spells, nausea. Drinking alcohol and caffeinated drinks can cause the body to eliminate too much fluid, leaving less for other important processes.

Water is important for many functions in the body; keeping your temperature normal, providing cushion to your joints, protects your spinal cord and clears the body of toxins. More is not always better when water is concerned, and you can drink too much. Drink to thirst and account for physical exercise and perspiration.

Some tips:

  • Getting in a good habit of having a large re-usable bottle, ideally 800mls plus and never leaving the house without it. Fill the bottle first thing and aim to fill up twice each day.

  • Swap some caffeinated drinks for herbal teas.

  • Add some flavour to water, a jug of water in the fridge with grated fresh ginger, mint, lemon slices, cucumber, orange.
